My trip to the Gym

So I’ve been considering joining a gym and the other day I was on a website (can’t recall which one) and a coupon for two free weeks to Bally’s appeared. I’d signed up for it once before but didn’t go, decided to sign up and check them out this time around. I filled out the form and they ask for my phone number so that a rep can give me a call. Spoke to the rep, he’d asked me how much weight I was seeking to lose, I let him know how much I’d already lost and that I’m considering the gym to aide in losing the rest because I do much better in changing my eating habits than changing fitness habits and the accountability would do me good. So he told me to come on in to get tour and learn more about the gym.

Now this is where I almost backed out of going. There are a few things I don’t like about gyms, as well as specifics I don’t like about Bally’s.
-The contracts (there’s typically 3 years unless you ask about specials or refuse to sign up at what’s being offered.)
-Sales pitchiness. I understand that people may begin well but back off either due to lack of commitment, time, money, whatever the case so the rep gets in there to try to combat these issues early (aside from let’s be real they work to get paid for their services) but more times than not a person that signs up themselves and makes it into the door, they’ve already debated and are close to choosing to join.
-Too crowded and impersonal.
-Look focus over health. I’d be a fool to say not having my stomach hang over my lap is no biggie to me ie there is a degree in which we should be concerned about how we look. However that’s not what’s most important and setting up unrealistic goals to reach what’s never going to be attainable based on body type are a waste of time and basically a building upon a false hope.

So with that said, I went to visit and took the tour of the place. Although I’d been to that particular location before, it had been a while so checked it out again. I love the particular building it’s in, really big and close to my job in terms of convenience. But it still had that impersonal feel to it, very sales pitchy was my rep as he informed me that not join I would not be equip to lose the weight basically. And not just because of the equipment, but they evidently give input on calories and things of that nature now so it would behoove me to join them. Well ummm I could see the argument if I wasn’t already loosing weight and explained my techniques and the fact that I’m already using much of what he presented. So because of that accountability factor that would ultimately be the reason I’d join a gym, decided they won’t be for me.

However that same day, I’d decided since I was out to visit another gym not too far by that I’d considered joining. This one will remain nameless because I’m not 100% sure of where I stand with them as of yet. Certain philosiphies and things of that nature. But checked them out for one so I wasn’t going off of false judgement and two we can’t escape this world so I have to discern when to make an in it not of it move (with prayer and NOT speaking on making room for sin to have its way). With all of that said, went to this place and it’s beautiful and small. The workout room is big enough for I’d say 13 maybe give or take a few more or a few less. How it works is you start in one room where you choose to do either the treadmill or the bike. The instructor takes you through different drills. Then switch to the next room where we use free weights, exercise balls, mats and whatever the instructor chooses basically then end with a stretch. I found it be much more personable, I don’t have to commit to a year I can sign up to x amount of classes plus I found out Oh forgot to mention I’d visited the day I’d gone to bally’s and went back for a free workout the next day. With that said found out there that I could sign up for the specific class I’m interested in and pay even less which of course limits me to just that class.

I’ll most likely will go back because it’ll allow me to take on classes and get me moving. No long commitment and no body drilling me. Actually after the presentation the owner told me his name and I said you’re the owner right and he said yes I responded you never would have known it and that’s a good thing:) But we’ll see if it’s not up to par in terms of beliefs let’s just say it can come off like a happy happy joy joy thing. I won’t be going back.
