Loving your skin with Kiehl’s
I love going into the Kiehl’s store, it’s so clean and the employees look so professional with their little lab coats and the products from hair to skin care all looks quite cute and uniform on the display self.
And as not to scare you away by thinking I’m about to blog on a product simply on the basis of the look of the store let me give you a bit of it’s history. Kiehl’s’s was founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village neighborhood over 150 years ago. So they should know a little something about caring for our skin I’d say. According to their website, Keihl’s has a “unique, extensive background represents a blend of cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal, and medicinal knowledge developed and passed on through the generations.” That’s what first got me into checking them out because I felt more emphasis would be placed on selling me products that would keep my skin healthy oppose to oh this smells really good and this helps to prevent aging everything but what I’d need to care for my skin now. An area that I could say is the most neglected part of my body.
Here are a few of the products I’ve used, at first glace they are expensive, but keep in mind due to the quality of the products, you’re using less product allowing it to actually last longer than something that would cost a little less money.
Rare-Earth Oatmeal Milk Facial Cleanser #1
What Kiehl’s has to say:
* Non-stripping
* Will not over-dry the skin
* Leaves skin soft and smooth
* Can be used as a mini-cleansing masque by leaving on skin for 60 seconds
* Does not produce a lather
* Not tested on animals
A non-stripping yet thoroughly effective milk cleanser for use on normal to oily skin types that will remove excess surface oil, dirt, and debris yet not over-dry the skin, leaving it clean, soft and smooth.
My take:
I brought this product because I tend to have combination skin in some places it’s oily other areas normal to dry. I found this product to be helpful in the oily areas without drying out the already dry areas. Does it’s job and leaves my skin feeling smooth. Important to note if you’re not taking care of your skin from the inside first (ie plenty of water, eating right) products won’t mean a hill of beans.
Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner
I did not see the specific toner that I’ve used on their website however I’ve found a close pic and perhaps one I’d like to try here is what the website has to say:
* Alcohol-Free
* Designed to soothe problem skin
* Made with Whole Flowers and Pure Extracts
* Maintains the natural balance and integrity of the skin
* Not tested on animals
This effective toner is formulated with select herbal extracts to gently cleanse and soothe normal to oily skin types without the use of alcohol or harsh synthetic drying agents. Our Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner may be used to soothe and improve problem areas.
My Take:
Since I haven’t yet tried this particular product can’t say much on it, however I can testify to the effectiveness of their toners overall. I’ve found the lack of alcohol to make a difference in getting out the excess that can be locatedd deeper in the pores, but doing so without drying out the skin.
Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15
What Kiehl’s has to say:
* Broad-spectrum UV-ray protection
* A light, yet effective lotion
* Easily absorbed
* Leaves no greasy or sticky residue
* Not tested on animals
Our unique, lightweight formulation is readily absorbed into the skin and affords protection from the sun’s burning and often harmful rays.
My Take:
This lotion was actually recommended to me by one of the employees at Kiehl’s. When I think moisturizer, greasy face always comes to mind perhaps it’s the oily skin, perhaps it’s flashbacks to Vaseline on the face as a child
. But needless to say, even as a cosmetologist I’d easily skip this process and end things off with the toner. Yet the benefits of using a moisturizer is plentiful. For one thing, this particular product is light as I’ve mentioned it’s a quality product so you don’t have to use as much, therefore it moisturizes without leaving you feeling greased down. Also this particular product protects from the sun, another thing I’d easily not think of yet even as brown folks it’s needed protection.
And there you have it, if you need a good skincare line that’s focused on caring for your skin, not simply selling beauty in a jar then you’d probably like these products. Also another thing I love about visiting the store is you can chose to sample products of your chosing while there. That way you’re not committed to buying anything just to find yourself disssapointed once you get it home. And from the looks of it the option is also available via their website. For more information and to get the prices of their products, you can check them out here.
