Chew on This-Edy’s Slow Churned

    image

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a Chew on this Post, so thought there to be no time like the present to change that. Edy’s Slow Churned has to be one of the best ice creams I’ve ever tasted, low fat or otherwise. I have to say it took me some time to even try it and if it were not on sale the day that I did, I’m sure I would not have. Ice creams that are low in fat or calories typically (in my experience of course) taste like soft ice mixed with skim milk and whatever flavor it’s suppose to represent, ewwww not my idea of good. Yet Edy’s although it tastes different from some of my favorite ice creams..

Chew on this-Perdue Chicken Patties

    image

Turkey burgers weren’t really something I was looking to like being I never did in the past. It was actually my daughter who kept bugging me pretty much every time that I went to the supermarket to purchase some of them and after it had been a while of me eating more meat again (had cut it out almost totally over the summer) I decided it would be a good change so I’d buy a pack for us both. Got them home, made them with the works and I really liked them for once.  It tastes slightly different from a beef burger, but not so much that I felt like I was getting a bad imitation of it. It will probably take a little time to where it would grow on me as a permanent replacement to the beef burger. However it’s definantly something I can eat without having to hold my breath to enjoy it.

I went to Purdue’s site to find a picture of them and lo and behold they also have recipes to check out as well. Next time I purchase some I’ll have to give the recipe a try. Needless to say they will be a regular buy for me, now if I ever get a hold of my favorite veggie burger recipe (not likely because it’s coming from a restaurant) then I may kiss them goodbye but would still buy them to satisfy the child.

Chew on This- Glory Foods String Beans

    image

The holiday season typically calls for lots and lots of eating....if we so choose that is. Yet who says we can't enjoy great foods while still factoring in our health? I had these string beans the other day and love them so thought it the perfect fit for the Chew on This section this month. Fresh is always better but if you're unable to purchase fresh or in need of something quick, this would be my second choice. They come already

Chew on This-Sea Salt

    image

Sea Salt is something I’d hear about often on cooking shows and especially for use in healthy recipes. After hearing so much about it, I’d made the decision to try out sea salt the next time I needed to purchase salt from the super market.  In my mind the idea of eating sea salt was not at all appealing. I thought that it would taste like big hunks of saltiness, that had a sea taste to it.  Don’t ask why I suppose the title is what led me to think this way. Howe

Chew on This-Agave Nectar

image I’ve been trying to find a nice sugar substitute for the longest time and I think I may have finally found one in Agave Nectar. I’d read up about it on the net and thought I was in trouble when reading it describes as a product that tastes like sugar, isn’t that said about everything! Still trying to figure out how Splenda tastes like sugar and perhaps it’s just the afte taste that won’t allow me to agree with that claim.

Here are some details from the Wholesome Sweeteners site, this is the particular brand I purchased however no the only one that offers Agave Nectar:

Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Raw Blue Agave nectar is a low-glycemic sweetener produced from organically grown and processed Blue Agave (Agave tequilana var. Weber) plants. The “Weber Azul” is a cactus-like plant that grows in the Jalisco region of Mexico; it’s been used for more than 5000 years to sustain the region’s inhabitants. Organic Raw Blue
