My trip to the Gym
So I’ve been considering joining a gym and the other day I was on a website (can’t recall which one) and a coupon for two free weeks to Bally’s appeared. I’d signed up for it once before but didn’t go, decided to sign up and check them out this time around. I filled out the form and they ask for my phone number so that a rep can give me a call. Spoke to the rep, he’d asked me how much weight I was seeking to lose, I let him know how much I’d already lost and that I’m considering the gym to aide in losing the rest because I do much better in changing my eating habits than changing fitness habits and the accountability would do me good. So he told me to come on in to get tour and learn more about the gym.

Accountable Fitness
One of the best motivators for getting physically fit is knowing that you have someone else with similar goals willing to work out with you. It’s fun on days when you’re on fire and excited about working out, but then on those days when you just don’t feel like it and could care less about the benefit of physical fitness, your workout partner can give you the push needed to get it done in spite of your desire to sit it out “just for today”. There is also the fact that two minds are working together to come up with different workouts and something as simple as being embarassed to quit in front of them can be the push you need to complete a work out you’d normally stop in the middle of.
So with that said, let’s take a look at some things to look for in a workout partner:
Someone that’ll hold you accountable
If you wake up and call them to say girl I don’t feel like working out today let’s do it tomorrow and they say okay. There is a good chance that’s not the best partner for you to have. We can be lazy on our own, our partners should be there to nudge us when we get in rut so that we workout in spite of our I don’t feel like it nature. Just like we have accountability in the faith when we are not walking according to God’s word, we want that same accountability when it comes to our workout partners, one that will be on top of us for fitness sake not to cuddle us when laying down is preferred to working out.
A person that’ll be sensitive to your needs
A flip side to a person that will hold you accountable in spite of yourself is the fact that you want someone who’ll recognize when you’re being straight fourth in putting off working out. Say you feel yourself sick or have an injury that may need to be taken care of before getting back into routine. Many of us can judge for ouselves to know when we must stop and the overbearing partner may not give up on you easily. Which will become more of a burden than a help to you. Therefore someone that will pry just enough to discern between your trying to get out of a work out or your needing to avoid one is ideal.
Choose a person that’s a motivator
Often times when we stop working out it’s not because it’s gotten harder if anything the more we do it the better. What does happen is we can lose motivation until we find ourselves drifting back into our old ways. Having a partner that will have the motivation to switch up routines when they notice you’re not giving it your all will be of great benefit.
One who likes the activities that you do and then some
Although there will be those workouts that we participate in based on need not like, it is good to have some activities incorporated into your fitness goals that center around that which you do like. For example you may prefer a dance routine over an aerobic one or vise versa. Partnering with someone who hates dance will make it difficult for them to participate or motivate you to
One that can take just as much as they dish out
The focus of this article is finding a great partner so it does a lot of pointing the finger to another. However keep in mind that you ought to be all of these things for someone else as well. And therefore having a partner that will be able to follow just as well as they lead will prove beneficial for you both.
